Lincoln's 200 birthday party

Community members are invited to celebrate Abraham Lincoln's 200th birthday in style 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at the Gail Borden Library, 270 North Grove Ave., Elgin. The Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra, together with the Elgin Choral Union and the Elgin Children's Chorus will perform. Birthday cake, baked by Elgin Community College's Culinary Arts and Hospitality Institute, will be served.

Route 47 could be in stimulus bill

The widening of Route 47 could be on the list of Illinois infrastructure projects that receives funding as part of the proposed federal stimulus bill. Huntley has submitted the $40 million project for consideration as part of the roughly $1 billion expected to be spent on Illinois roads, according to Village Manager Dave Johnson. "We think it's certainly a candidate for inclusion on that legislation," Johnson said. "We're trying to keep the (Route) 47 project visible."

Grafton hosts coupon seminar

Grafton Township is hosting a free seminar on how to trim grocery bills by making the most effective use of coupons. The seminar will be led by Jill Cataldo, local resident and coupon maven. The seminar will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at the Cosman Cultural Center, 12015 Mill St., Huntley. No reservations are necessary.
