Here come the signs

Candidates for local offices in West Dundee can begin posting campaign signs in yards throughout the village beginning Wednesday, Feb. 25, about 41 days before the April 7 election. Though the village ordinance states that campaign signs are to be posted no more than 30 days before an election, the village board decided to allow signs to be put up the day after the Dundee Township Republican Primary. The earlier start would prevent confusion and headaches for candidates and village enforcement staff.

Jacobs wins science competition

A team of students from Jacobs High School captured first place in the regional competition of Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering held at Elgin Community College on Jan. 30. The team earned medals in every category, and eight of the 14 students won individual medals. The Algonquin high school has finished first at the event for three consecutive years and in five of the past nine years.

No challenges in District 158

No objections have been filed challenging the paperwork of any of the candidates running for the Huntley Unit District 158 school board, according to the district. This stands in contrast to the 2005 election, when challenges were filed against 11 of 14 candidates who were seeking a seat on the board. Then-candidate Larry Snow filed eight objections in 2005, including two against board member Mike Skala. Snow and Skala are both seeking a 2-year seat on the board this year. Two of the candidates whose paperwork was challenged in 2005 later dropped out of the race.
