Hampshire completes BN-East sweep

The Hampshire girls basketball team showed Monday night its postseason ready, rolling over Richmond-Burton 55-35 to complete an undefeated Big Northern East season.

The Whip-Purs (22-4, 10-0), ranked No. 20 in the Daily Herald circulation area this week, play in the Class 3A Kaneland regional next week.

Monday's win was the 19th straight in the BN-East for the Whips, who have won the conference title the last two years.

Christina Heine led the way Monday with 20 points, while Cassie Dumoulin and Alex Dumoulin scored 13 each.

"Heine was a force inside all night and Christine Schumacher gave us a nice spark in the second half," said Hampshire coach Sue Ellett.

Elgin Academy 35, Mooseheart 28: The Elgin Academy girls basketball team opened the Class 1A postseason with a 35-28 win over Mooseheart Monday night at the Hinckley-Big Rock regional.

The Hilltoppers (12-14) will face top-seeded and state-ranked Hinckley-Big Rock in a Wednesday semifinal.

Lauren Steimle led Elgin Academy with 14 points, while Alyssa Pena had 9 and Alex Lee 8.
