The Wheeling Police Department will host an informational meeting on its red light photo enforcement program at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and again on Feb. 25. The meetings will be held at the village council chambers, 255 W. Dundee Road. The program is set to go operational at the end of February or beginning March 2009. The first two camera locations will be at the intersections of Milwaukee and Dundee, and Palatine and Wheeling. NIU open house
Northern Illinois University will host an open house for prospective students and families from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 16 in the Holmes Student Center, Lucinda Avenue and Normal Road, DeKalb. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet representatives from admissions, the faculty, financial aid and student services. Open house activities include a student-led campus bus tour, residence hall visits and a university information fair. Many of NIU's academic colleges and departments also will host individual open houses during the day. No reservations are required for the open house or related activities. Morning arrival is recommended to enjoy the widest range of program options. Free parking will be available at the Convocation Center with shuttle buses to the Student Center. The Buffalo Grove High School Boosters are hosting a fundraiser for the boys baseball team on Saturday, Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, for the "Love of the Game" at the Cubby Bear North on Milwaukee Avenue. The Heart of a Marine Foundation, headquartered in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, is proud to announce The Honorable Pat Quinn, Governor of Illinois as keynote speaker at the Foundation's Hearts of Valor Ball. The Hearts Of Valor Ball, an annual benefit, raises funds for veterans, active duty military from all branches of the United States Armed Forces, and their families.
On Saturday, February 28 at the Meridian Banquets in Rolling Meadows, the Hearts of Valor Ball includes a presentation of the Foundation's works, dinner, dancing, entertainment, a silent auction and raffles. Representatives from all branches of our Armed Forces and civilians are encouraged to attend this patriotic celebration.
In 2008 The Heart Of A Marine Foundation donated interactive, rehabilitative software and computers to VA Hospitals nationwide for the use in treatment of those affected by traumatic brain injury (TBI) and stroke. Proceeds from The Hearts Of Valor Ball will support the Foundation's ongoing mission to supply all VA Hospitals in need of TBI rehabilitative software.

Menards grand opening
The Long Grove's new Menards is having a special nine-day grand opening special starting Saturday, Feb. 14, at 2700 Lake Cook Road. Customers will get deals on merchandise, prize giveaways and in-store demonstrations. The home improvements store opened last month. The Long Grove store will be a replacement for a smaller Palatine store on Rand Road that will be closing down. The store will be the latest Menards to open in the Chicago area. On Nov. 18, Menards opened a store at 7435 Barrington Road in Hanover Park, which replaced a Hoffman Estates store that closed last year. In the spring, the Wisconsin-based chain expects to open another store in Chicago.
