Lake Park musical today
Lake Park High School's Theatre and Music Departments will present Leonard Bernstein's "West Side Story" at 7:30 p.m. today and Saturday, Feb. 6-7, on the Dice Auditorium stage at Lake Park's East Campus, 600 S. Medinah Road, Roselle. The retelling of Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" is set in New York City during the racially-charged '50s. Tickets cost $7 for adults and $5 for non-Lake Park students. Cruise for older adults
The Heritage YMCA Group is taking registration for a day trip to downtown Chicago that includes a Navy Pier lunch cruise and admission to the Chicago Flower and Garden Show on March 7. Buses board at 9 a.m. at the Fry Family YMCA, 2120 W. 95th St., Naperville, and leave Navy Pier at 6 p.m. The cost is $70 per individual or $120 per couple. For details, call (630) 585-2207.
Heart volunteers wanted
Indian Praire District 204 is seeking volunteers to participate in the upcoming Young Hearts for Life Cardiac Screening program. Volunteers must commit to at least four hours of service and attend a 90-minute training session. Training for Waubonsie Valley High School volunteers is scheduled at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. March 17, 5 and 7 p.m. March 18, and 5 and 7 p.m. April 8. Training for Neuqua Valley volunteers will be 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. April 14, 5 and 7 p.m. April 15, and 5 and 7 p.m. April 30. Screenings will take place March 19, 20 and April 9 for Waubonsie, and April 16, 17 and May 1 for Neuqua Valley. Dist. 94 student assessment
Community High School District 94 in West Chicago will participate in the 2009 National Assessment of Educational Progress. The assessment measures what students in America know in a variety of school subjects. The assessment results, presented in The Nation's Report Card, provide information to educators and policymakers about the progress of education in the U.S. This year, the assessment will measure student achievement in reading, math, and science. The assessment will be administered in 21,000 schools to nearly 1 million students nationwide. Results will be provided at the state and national levels and for major demographic groups.
