Rosemont candidates challenged

Challenges have been filed to the nominating petitions of acting Rosemont Mayor Bradley Stephens, who is running for village president, and incumbent trustees Sharon Pappas and Ralph DiMatteo running for re-election, as well as trustee candidate Roger Minale, and clerk candidate Debbie Drehobl. The village electoral board will hear and rule on the objections at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the village board meeting room on the second floor of village hall, 9501 Devon Ave.

Get free dental work

A Des Plaines dental office will offer free dental work Saturday as part of the Give Kids a Smile program to children of underprivileged families. Children ages 7 to 16 years old will receive free dental exams, cleaning, X-rays, and fluoride treatment at 1355 E. Golf Road. For more information, call (847) 824-3633.

Hoffman's McLeod to speak

Tickets are still available for the Hoffman Estates Chamber of Commerce's Mayor's Update Breakfast, which takes place 8 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, at the Stonegate Conference and Banquet Center, 2401 W. Higgins Road. Village President William D. McLeod will give his annual state-of-the-village address. Tickets are $20 for chamber members and $30 for nonmembers; call (847) 781-9100. Hospital hosts "Heart & Soul" Fair:

Northwest Community Hospital is hosting a free Heart & Soul Health Fair from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the hospital located at 800 W. Central Road in Arlington Heights. Cardiologists will speak about new developments in heart care and how to separate fact from myth. There will also be heart-healthy food, a free yoga class, CPR information, animal-assisted therapy and more. Register online for $10 screenings at nch.org/heartandsoul.

Donate to ALS spin-a-thon

A cycling event designed to raise awareness and funds for ALS will be held 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Buehler YMCA in Palatine. The spin-a-thon will benefit the Blazeman Foundation for ALS, formed for Jon Blais, the first person with ALS to finish an Ironman race. The event is one of three in Illinois and 20 nationwide. School committees recruiting

Schaumburg Township Elementary District 54 is seeking community members interested in serving on its District Citizens' Advisory Committee (DCAC) or Budget Review Committee. The DCAC meets at 9 a.m. on the second Thursday of each month from September to May and provides input to the school board on district topics. The Budget Review Committee requires members able to meet up to six times at 6 p.m. on Thursdays from January to June and participate in discussions on school finance.
