Historian to visit high school

Renowned historian and radical activist Howard Zinn will speak via speakerphone with students from Dundee-Crown High School at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 5. Interested members of the public are invited to attend the talk, which will be held at the Carpentersville high school. The exact location will be posted at the school on Thursday. Zinn's talk is part of a series of discussions with public intellectuals organized by Dundee-Crown history teacher Bruce Taylor. Call (224) 484-5000.

Cheerleading clinic

The St. Charles North High School cheerleaders will host a clinic from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Feb. 21 in the gymnasium, Red Gate Road and Route 31. A performance from 2:30 to 3 p.m. follows. Students in kindergarten through eighth grade are welcome. The fee is $30. Proceeds support the cheerleading team. Advance registration is preferred, but registration will be accepted at the door. Chili cook-off scheduled

The Association for Individual Development is having a chili cook-off at 1 p.m. Feb. 25 at the Maple Park Pub in Maple Park. The top three winners from each contests (others were held in Burlington and South Elgin in January) will face off during AID's 10th annual telethon on Feb. 28 and have the chance to win a $500 cash first prize.
