Watch board meetings from home, vote early, stay fit
If you want to keep up with East Dundee politics but the weather's just too brutal; or you can't leave the house on Monday night because "Big Bang Theory" and "How I Met Your Mother" are on TV, the village has the solution for you.
You can now download board meetings to view from the village's Web site, www.eastdundee.net. Just follow the link to the board meeting calendar. There's a link to video of the latest board meeting next to the date.
There are some kinks in the new technology, but it's still handy for residents to stay informed. Since the village records all of its meetings, there's little to no additional cost to upload the video to the Web site.
Early voting for the consolidated election begins today and runs through February 19. The village halls of East Dundee and West Dundee, as well as the Dundee Township Senior Center and Dundee Township offices will serve as early voting sites. The Jewel-Osco in West Dundee as well as Spring Hill Mall will have early voting sites available on specific dates. For more information go to kanecountyelections.org.
To vote early you must present an Illinois driver's license, a nondriver ID issued by the Illinois Secretary of State, or another government issued form of identification.
Batter up: Congratulations to the Tri-Cities Little League for adding the Challenger League to its calendar. The league gets all kids involved in a sport that is a favorite American pastime. There should be no boundaries for children with mental and physical disabilities.
Also, kudos to all of the parents and players who turned up to the introductory meeting last week. Without you, the league could not happen, so thank you for supporting such a worthwhile program.
The Challenger League, which pairs a Little League player with a Challenger League player, is expected to begin sometime this summer. Though the program is still in its infancy, you can learn more by contacting John Burke at (708) 426-6093 or Mark Anders at (847) 836-0757.
Get fit: There's no reason to let that New Years resolution to get fit fall by the wayside this year, especially if you live in Dundee Township. The township fitness center is offering a free evaluation when you sign up for a year membership. Membership rates vary so contact the Dundee Township Park District Fitness Center at (847) 551-4323 or visit the center at 665 Barrington Ave, Carpentersville.
Watch the birdie: Don't forget that the 12th annual Great Backyard Bird Count of Dundee Township takes place on Saturday, Feb. 14 and Sunday, Feb 15 at 10 a.m.
Participants will meet at the township office, 557 Barrington Ave, Carpentersville, to learn how to identify certain birds and why bird watching is essential to assessing data. After the class, the group will head out for a stroll through Library Springs, one of the township's open space sites.
The program will last about 1½ hours. Bring along binoculars and dress appropriately. The event is free and will be canceled only due to extreme weather. For more information call the Dundee Township Offices at (847) 428-8092.
