Village seeks input on SEBA Park
The South Elgin Parks and Recreation Department will hold a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, in the east activity room at the Municipal Annex, 1 W. State St. 2009 to discuss park improvements at SEBA Park. The park is at the end of West Middle Street and West Plum Street along Water Street, south of the Municipal Annex, along the Fox River. Elgin history talk
The Elgin Woman's Club will begin its meetings for this year with a program and luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, at the Holiday Inn, 495 Airport Road, Elgin. The program will feature a presentation by Elgin Mayor Ed Schock called "Elgin - The Present and the Future." The cost is $13 and may be paid the day of the event. Cary police make changes at top
A pair of longtime Cary police sergeants have been promoted to acting deputy chiefs in a departmental reorganization. Village Administrator Cameron Davis has promoted Geoffrey Cooker and Edward Synek Jr. The pair have a combined 39 years of experience with the department. Cooker was hired in 1984 and has overseen many administrative functions. Synek was hired in 1993 and since 2002 has been head of investigations.
Help celebrate Abe's 200th birthday
Organizers are looking for volunteers and contributors for a series of events next month to honor the 200th birthday of Abraham Lincoln. Planned events include a period themed birthday party at the Dole Mansion in Crystal Lake, a Lincoln portrait contest, re-enactments of the Lincoln-Douglas debates and public recitations of Lincoln's speeches.
