Kozlowski steps down as Wauconda's football coach
Glen Kozlowski helped rebuild Wauconda's football program.
After seven seasons, the former Chicago Bears wide receiver is seeking a new project.
Kozlowski has resigned as head coach at Wauconda.
"The hard part is leaving the kids," Kozlowski said. "This has been a month-and-a-half process making this decision. It was the right time. The program is in great shape. But I felt like I wanted to do something new. I like fixing things."
While not wanting to confirm his next move, Kozlowski added he has no regrets about leaving a program that he helped bring back respectability to this decade.
Kozlowski had never been a high school coach before taking the Wauconda job in 2002. The Bulldogs went 0-9 in each of his first two seasons and then lost their first four games in 2004 before defeating Round Lake in two overtimes in Week 5.
Wauconda went 1-8 that season, but saw marked improvement the following season. The Bulldogs went 3-6 in 2005 and 4-5 in 2006.
They had a breakout season in 2007, winning seven games during the regular season and securing their first state playoff berth since 1998.
The Bulldogs went 4-5 last season.
Kozlowski refused to take credit for Wauconda's improvement over the last few years, instead lauding mainly the efforts of the community.
"I love the opportunity I was given," he said.
