Shots drop early, often for Driscoll

St. Edward had no reason to feel badly.

Not many teams would beat Driscoll when the Highlanders are shooting like this.

The Highlanders shot a blistering 61 percent from the field with four girls scoring in double figures in a 78-49 Suburban Catholic Conference win Wednesday night in Addison.

Driscoll (24-0, 11-0) matched its season-high in points, also against St. Edward.

"They just have so many angles that they can score out of," St. Edward coach Michelle Dawson said.

Courtney Lindfors scored 17 points to go along with 10 rebounds and 5 blocks, Gigi DiGrazia had 21 points with five 3-pointers, Allie DiVito 17 points and Kasey Reaber 10.

"Against Kokomo we didn't start shooting like that until the last five minutes of the game," Driscoll coach Steve McCuiston said, "and they were doing the same thing, trying to pack it in against Courtney. We'll live and die by our open looks. We have good 3-point shooters."

Driscoll broke out to a 19-6 start, forcing 6 St. Edward turnovers in the first quarter to dictate a fast pace. But the Wave hung in there and pulled within 37-30 at half on a Maddie Kerr 3-pointer and Katie Yohn steal and score to close the second quarter.

The margin was still eight a minute into the third quarter after a Yohn 3-pointer, but from there Driscoll went on a 19-0 run. DiVito had 11 of her points during the key stretch. Driscoll held St. Edward to just 5 points in the quarter.

"The girls were very focused defensively in the second half," McCuiston said.

"The pace of the game kind of picked up," Dawson said, "and we didn't stop their transition game like we wanted to."

Reaber, periodically spelled by DiVito, kept Bradley recruit Yohn to 16 points on 5-of-18 shooting.

"She's definitely their best player," Reaber said, "and she can shoot from anywhere. You can't sag off of her. I think we did a good job. We stayed up on her, made her dribble to her left and made their other girls beat us."

Kerr added 10 points for St. Edward (15-8, 7-4).

Driscoll has a home game left with Marian Central Friday, and with a win it can go for an outright conference title next Tuesday at Montini.

"We never take any team for granted," DiVito said. "We're not overlooking anybody."
