District 158 board president to seek re-election
Huntley Unit District 158 School Board President Shawn Green will seek re-election after all.
Green, the school board president since 2007, said last week he probably would not run "if there are four or five people I'm comfortable with voting for."
So far, he said Thursday, only two candidates who have filed to get on the April ballot fit the bill: board Secretary Kim Skaja and Lake in the Hills parent Paul Troy.
"I've been counting noses of who I knew for sure were running, and I couldn't count five people I was comfortable voting for," Green said.
Green, a Huntley resident, said he also supports current board member Mike Skala and Grafton Township Trustee Rob LaPorta.
Skala and LaPorta have not filed their paperwork, although Skala said Thursday he will seek re-election.
LaPorta, a Grafton Township trustee who is up for re-election for that seat, did not return a call seeking comment. He said last week he was undecided.
One candidate Green will not be voting for is board rival Larry Snow, who is running for re-election and has filed to be on the April ballot.
There are five open seats on the District 158 school board, including the seat held by board Vice President Tony Quagliano, who has said he will not run again.
Four of the seats are four-year terms; the fifth is a two-year term. Green said he will seek a four-year term.
