Big Hollow still looking for information technology dirctor

Following a late night board meeting that seemed destined to end with the hiring of an information technology director, Big Hollow officials shocked audience members by reopening the hiring process.

People interested in the post, which is been kept empty for five years, should submit their resumes, District 38 officials said. The district has not determined a salary range for the position, officials said Monday night.

Early on in Monday's board meeting at Big Hollow Middle School, board President Vickie Gallichio explained the district is in desperate need of a technology director to keep the district up with the constant upgrades to many technology systems.

Simultaneously, she fended off rumors that the position was brought back to give resigning board member Todd Wright a district paycheck.

Wright had been volunteering at the district for the previous three or four years helping to upgrade the district's technology, and also has kept the board apprised of technology upgrades as needed, Gallichio said.

"I realized that Todd was not running for re-election in April, and Todd guided us through the all of the technology upgrades at this district on a volunteer basis," she said. "With technology constantly upgrading, the board felt it was important to bring back this director position for the good of the school district."

The district currently employs a computer and technology consultant who handles the district's IT department, but Gallichio said that person is often fixing computers rather than working on larger projects, like upgrades in the phone, library, computer and security systems.

Wright resigned from the board at the beginning of Monday's meeting, which added to the feel that he would be appointed as director of IT.

While he did not attend the board meeting, he said in a letter that he was stepping down for personal reasons.

Board members did confirm, however, Wright stepped down rather than leaving after the April election, to apply for the IT director position.

Board officials also confirmed Wright has been interviewed for the position, though would not say if he is the front-runner.

Gallichio said people interested in the position should apply by contacting the school at (847) 740-1490.
