National Alliance on Mental Illness seeking volunteers
National Alliance on Mental Illness is seeking volunteers interested in law enforcement to investigate the formation and funding of a Police Crisis Intervention Team in the community to assist persons with mental illness and their families. This specialized police training is part of a current trend nationwide to reduce violent outcomes during crisis situations.
Many families living in Elk Grove and Schaumburg encounter domestic situations with their loved one with mental illness which often need some form of crisis intervention for which the local police force and mental health community are not currently able to provide. A specially trained police team, called a "Crisis Intervention Team" would mobilize in cases involving persons with mental illness.
Communities with crisis teams have reduced negative outcomes for both family members and persons with mental illness, and significantly reduced injuries to police officers. For more information, contact Gina at (630) 302-2530
