Krutwig's 24 lead Jacobs
South Dakota-bound senior Conrad Krutwig led Jacobs to its 10th straight win with 24 points to lead all scorers in a 73-59 victory over Grayslake North in Algonquin Saturday night.
The Golden Eagles sank 27 field goals to sink the Knights (6-7) in a Fox Valley Conference crossover game delayed 24 hours due to Friday's snow.
Jacobs (12-2), which has not lost since Dec. 5, received key contributions from senior Tim Moran (14 points), junior Mike Barch (10 points) and sophomore point guard Mike Peterson ( 9 points).
DeKalb 61, Elgin 44: Elgin's long journey to the Rock Falls Shootout ended in defeat after the Maroons surrendered a 5-point lead at halftime.
"We didn't come out to play in the second half," Elgin coach Mike Sitter said. "We are too weak mentally to play four quarters. Until we can put together four solid quarters, we aren't going to win basketball games," Sitter said.
Senior forward Marcus Redburg led offensive efforts with 14 points and senior Steve Edwards added 12 points.
Morgan Park Academy 68, Elgin Academy 56: Elgin Academy (3-9, 1-3) fell behind early in this Independent School League contest and couldn't battle back desite double-digit scoring from both Javon McDonald (14 points) and Paul Leonardis (14 points). Connor Flexman added 7 points.
Girls basketball
Johnsburg 59, Jacobs 54: The Golden Eagles (12-6) got 21 points from junior Maria Tamburrino and 11 points apiece from senior Keri Bultman and junior Sierra Dunner, but it wasn't enough to win on the road against the Skyhawks (13-5), who were led by 24 points from junior Danielle Slivka.
Grayslake Central 65, Dundee-Crown 47: The Chargers (2-17) couldn't handle the Rams (9-6) in this Fox Valley Conference crossover in Grayslake despite 16 points from senior guard Alex Lococo and 9 points from Megan Fasanella.
Huntley 51, McHenry 34: Huntley (8-8) used its home court advantage to jump on top early and never looked back in this Fox Valley Conference crossover victory over the Warriors (10-10). Carly Goede led the Red Raider offense with 14 points and 5 steals. Hillary Johnson had 11 points and 5 rebounds and Megan Martinez added 8 points, 7 rebounds and 8 steals to the winning cause.
Cary-Grove 44, Crystal Lake Central 34: Tori Sandstrom (14 points) and Liz Bart (12 points) took control for Cary-Grove in a 44-34 Fox Valley Conference crossover win in Crystal Lake against the Tigers (7-9). Sandstrom sank 6-of-7 late free throws to help the Trojans pull away and improve to 13-4 overall.
CL South 45, Prairie Ridge 24: The Gators (14-2) rolled to their 11th straight win this Fox Valley Conference crossover at Prairie Ridge (7-10), led by 12 points and 7 rebounds from senior Caitlin Mize and 10 points and 3 steals from junior Katie Burton.
Elgin Academy 44, Morgan Park Academy 24: Behind a double-double from Bianca Swegler, who finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds, the Hilltoppers (5-8) earned this Independent School League win. Lauren Steimle led the offense with 11 points, while Alyssa Pena (9 points) and Alexandria Lee (8 points) contributed.
Fremd 44, Schaumburg 35: Juniors Gianna Abruzzo (14 points, 7 rebounds) and Taylor Glassmann (13) led Fremd as the Vikings (11-6, 3-1) remained in a three-way tie for first in the MSL West with Barrington and Hoffman Estates.
"I thought Katie Hetzner did a great job on Taylor Kosla (Schaumburg point guard), holding her without a field goal," said Fremd coach Dave Yates, whose team led 15-2 after one quarter. "And Megan Gray (sophomore forward) did a great job to hold (Sarah) Kellermeyer to 5 points. It was very good defense on both their parts."
Rachael Kahan (9 points) and Sarah McGinn (8) led the Saxons (6-12, 1-3).
Barrington 47, Palatine 36: Sophomore Abby Kirchoff (13 points) and senior Jenny Schnack (12 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists) led the host Fillies (13-6, 3-1) in the MSL West contest.
Fillies sophomore Brooke Chandor grabbed 9 rebounds with her 7 points.
Sophomore forward Alexis Bauer led the Pirates (3-16, 0-4) with 16 points while junior Heather Zimmerman added 10.
Men's basketball
Judson 97, Purdue-North Central 74: The Eagles held nothing back in their second CCAC game of the season and came away with a 23-point win over Purdue-North Central by a final score of 97-74. Judson is now back above .500 with a 10-9 record and is 1-1 in the CCAC. Dewayne Robinson led the way with 20 points, Josh Edwards scored 19, Landon Skinner 13 and Josh Weber 10 points for the Eagles.
