Driver cited in accident that injured Naperville boy

Naperville police have issued several citations against a truck driver involved in an accident that injured a Lincoln Junior High School student, authorities said Thursday.

Kevin A. Greenwood, 26, of Chicago, was cited for disobeying a traffic control signal, making an improper turn and operating an uninsured vehicle, police said. His co-worker, John J. Mahoney, 39, of Ingleside, was cited for obstructing the highway. State police have taken the truck out of service.

The 12-year-old male student remained in intensive care Thursday at Edward Hospital. Authorities have not released his identity.

The accident occurred just before 3 p.m. Wednesday when the student was walking north in the crosswalk on the east side of the intersection. Police say the boy had a walk signal to cross the road.

A truck with a flatbed trailer delivering telephone poles along 75th Street was attempting to make a left turn from 75th to southbound Olympus Drive, according to police. The driver had a red light but Mahoney was stopping traffic to allow the truck to turn. As it did so, it struck the student who suffered a severe leg injury.

The accident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call (630) 305-5285.
