Kane County crews will me making repairs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, at Randall Road and the Foothill Road/Route 20 ramp. The traffic light will be out of service and the intersection reduced to a four-way stop. Long delays are expected and motorists are encouraged to plan alternate routes.
Carpentersville needs a volunteer
The Carpentersville Board of Fire and Police Commissioners seeks an interested person to fill a vacancy. The term expires May 1, 2011. The board consists of three members elected by the village president with the consent of the village board. Members conduct competitive entry level and promotional examinations for various positions in the fire and police departments, make appointments to positions in the police and fire departments based on the results of such competitive examinations, and address disciplinary matters. Those who wish to be considered for the position should submit a letter of interest to Village President Bill Sarto, 1200 LW Besinger Drive, Carpentersville, 60110, no later than Friday, Jan. 9.

The Dundee Township Public Library will hold a college financial aid workshop from 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, explaining the intricacies of the system and offering resources for future as well as current college students. The financial aid system includes scholarships, grants, student loans, and tax-saving opportunities and is designed to help relieve the expensive burden of college for all parents, not just low or moderate income families. Certified College Planning Specialist Joe Orsolini will present "Don't Pay the College Sticker Price!" at the West Dundee Public Safety Center II, 100 Carrington Ave., at Route 72 and Sleepy Hollow Road. Catholic high school placement tests Saturday
Catholic high schools across the Archdiocese of Chicago in Cook and Lake counties will administer annual placement tests for eighth-grade students on Saturday, 8 a.m. at the various schools. Students are asked to bring two No. 2 pencils and a check for the $25 exam fee made payable to the school. Test results will be mailed to students by mid-February. For answers to questions related to placement testing, a guide for students and their families is posted on the Archdiocese's web site at www.archchicago.org.
