McHenry Co. Christmas exhibit runs through January
The popular special display featuring antique and collectible Christmas memorabilia will continue through January at the McHenry County Historical Society Museum, 6422 Main St., Union. This year's life size display features a small town Main Street complete with a live Christmas tree lot, park benches and lit streetlights.
Of particular interest is the mid-20th-century hardware store filled with period presents, appliances, toys and other household goods that these stores once carried during the holiday season.
The museum and special exhibit will be open free Monday through Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. Any nonperishable food or household goods brought in will be given to area food pantries. Visitors are advised to call first at (815) 923-2267 if poor weather conditions exist or schools are closed.
"Main Street Christmas" is provided by collector Dave Harms of Crystal Lake who is a member of the McHenry County Historical Society board of directors. For information on the society, membership, or local history, check out the Web site www.mchsonline.org.
