Teachers, schools hold all the cards

After reading the front page of the Dec. 18 Daily Herald I felt compelled to respond to the results of a story I've been following regarding alleged abuse toward special ed students in District 54.

The teacher who inflicted this abuse was found not guilty even though another teacher witnessed the abuse and was brave enough to come forward because she loved children.

What a sad day for both the children and their parents. The story ended as all stories against school administrators do - the students were blamed for their actions, kicking, head-butting and trying to flee the classroom.

Dear parents, here's a heads-up: No matter what happens at any school, short of sexual abuse or death, an administrator will most likely be found not guilty in their actions against your children.

Teachers and administrators know this and will always turn the story around so that your supposedly bad child is the problem and the reason for their actions. After all who isn't going to believe a teacher or principal over a child.

Even the Illinois State Board of Education will do the same thing with any complaint you bring them. I know this first hand myself from experience with the ISSB. Usually attorneys won't even touch cases against schools because they know the school teachers and administrators will always turn things around so your child is always the bad one.

There isn't any accountability, what a sad way to manipulate the system. Principals and teachers can pretty much do whatever they want with your children, the children we entrust to their care each and every day.

How very sad for the families, that their children will have this nightmare of their physical abuse at school in their minds forever. Mental abuse to a child is also a horrible unforgivable crime. How can these parents ever trust a school to do the right thing regarding their children's care again?
