• Coast Guard Seaman Apprentice Katie P. Anderson, daughter of Laura R. and Tom S. Anserson of Fox River Grove, graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Recruit Training Center in Cape May, N.J.
During the eight-week training program, Anderson completed a vigorous training curriculum consisting of academics and practical instruction on water safety and survival, military customs and courtesies, seamanship skills, first aid, fire fighting and marksmanship. A major emphasis is also placed on physical fitness, health and wellness.
Anderson is a 2008 graduate of Cary Grove High School in Cary.
• Navy Seaman Christopher J. Asta, son of Deanna Asta of Schaumburg and James M. Asta of Hoffman Estates completed U.S. Navy Basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
During the eight-week program, Asta completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival and ship board and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.
• Navy Seaman Jussica D. Awtry, sister of Melissa K. Harr of Palatine, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training command, Great Lakes, Ill.
During the eight-week program, Awtry completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also places on physical fitness.
Awtry is a 2008 graduate of LaMarque High School, La Marque, Texas.
• Army Pvt. Brian A. Marshall has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, core values and traditions. Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experiencing use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman. He is the son of Kevin Marshall of Jay Lane, Rolling Meadows, and Ellen Grgurich of West Miner Street, Arlington Heights. The private is a 2008 graduate of Rolling Meadows High School.
• Army Pvt. William T. Rockensock graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
He is the son of Natalie Majewski of Elgin and Lance Rockensock of Bartlett. Rockensock is a 2007 graduate of Lincoln's Challenge Academy, Rantoul, Ill.
• Air Force Airman Ruben Rodriguez has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, core values, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations. He is the son of Juan Rodriguez of Des Plaines, and a 2006 graduate of Maine West High School, Des Plaines.
• Air Force Airman James O. Schilling has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, core values, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.
Schilling is the son of Robert and Frederica Schilling of Des Plaines. In 2008, the airman graduated from Maine West High School, Des Plaines.
• Air Force Airman 1st Class Bradley W. Taylor graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
Taylor earned the Warhawk Award for physical training excellence, earned distinction as an honor graduate and received the "Top BMT Airman Award" from the group of 740 trainees. In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Taylor is the son of Bill and Mary Lou Taylor, and proud big brother of Brittany, all of Bartlett. The airman graduated in 2003, from Bartlett High School, and received a bachelor of science degree in 2008, from Iowa State University, Ames.
