Fox Valley township primaries afoot

The Elgin City Council isn't the only unit of government in which voters will narrow a field of candidates in a Feb. 24 primary.

Candidate filings for Elgin, Dundee and McHenry townships will force a primary between Republicans and Democrats alike.

Six challengers will force a Democratic primary in the race for four seats on the Elgin Township board: Carol Rauschenburger, Hidayat Khan, William Becker, Deborah Willis, Steve Corn and Ana Ortiz.

Khan ran unsuccessfully for a seat on the Elgin City Council in 2007.

Dundee Township has several races that will require a primary. For township supervisor, incumbent Susan F. Harney, former Kane County Board member Don Rage and Pamela L. Griffin are seeking the Republican nomination.

Lee Barrett, also is a former Kane County Board member, and Michael Bielak will square off for the Republican nomination for Dundee Township assessor.

Also, Charlton "Chuck" Behm, David Edwards, Kenneth J. Schaffer, Paul Lanspa, Margaret O. Scarpelli and JoAnn Fritz will seek the GOP nomination for one of four trustee seats.

Five Republican candidates will face off in a primary for four seats on the McHenry Township board: Incumbents Kathleen Kuchta, Marsha Nelson, James Condon and Vincent Nett and challenger Craig Adams.

Candidates still have until Dec. 24 to file petitions for a seat on the McHenry Township board.
