Four seats open for District 207 board

Nominating petitions for the April 7 school board election in Maine Township High School District 207 are available at the district office, 1131 S. Dee Road, Park Ridge. Forms may be picked up 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Petitions must be filed in the same office no earlier than 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20 and no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 26. Four seats serving four years on District 207's seven-member board are open. To be eligible a candidate must, on election day, be a U.S. citizen who is at least 18 years old, a registered voter, and a resident of District 207 for at least one year immediately preceding the election. Learn to eat less during holidays

The Arlington Heights Senior Center will offer a free program on overeating during the holidays at 7 p.m. today, at the center, 1801 W. Central, Arlington Heights. A special meditation session will be conducted by Om Johari and is open to the public. No reservations necessary. Call (847) 253-5532.

Central, River roads closed two days

Because of the Our Lady of Guadalupe religious celebration at Maryville Academy, Central Road at River Road in Des Plaines will be closed to vehicle traffic beginning at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11. Central Road will also be closed to westbound traffic at East River Road. Central Road at Wolf Road will be closed to eastbound through traffic. Central Road will remain closed until 6 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 12. At 4 p.m. Friday, Central Road will again be closed and remain closed until 11 p.m. The celebration begins at 4 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 11, and ends with the closing Mass at 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12. It is estimated that attendance will range from 60,000 to more than 100,000. Parking is extremely limited on the Maryville Campus. Most off-site parking is at Oakton Community College or various parking lots in Mount Prospect.

District 23 holds registration

Prospect Heights School District 23 is now accepting names of children who will be entering kindergarten in the fall of 2009. Children must be five years of age by September 1, 2009. For an information packet, call (847) 870-3868 or (847) 870-3875. Registration is Monday, Jan. 26.
