Fischer leads Hawks; Cougars roll

College of Charleston-bound Megan Fischer collected a game-high 24 points with 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals while sophomore teammate Jada Stotts added 11 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals for Hoffman Estates in a 56-35 Mid-Suburban West girls basketball victory over visiting Palatine.

Stotts, who usually comes off the bench, started in place of Megan Evans, who is recovering from a concussion.

Carol King added 3 assists for the Hawks (6-2, 1-1) while teammates Megan Bernardoni (7 rebounds) and Alex Wulbecker (5 rebounds) each had 3 steals.

Conant 47, Larkin 20: Emma Loos (10 points), Ashley Lindeman (9 points) and Lauren Jason (9) led the host Cougars (7-1) in the nonconference game.

St. Viator 52, North Chicago 42: The Lions (4-3) won for the third time in four games with its nonconference victory on the road.

Junior guard Susan Hohenadel led the Lions with 18 points and also handed out 3 assists.

Junior forward Bridget Urbanus came off the bench and added 12 points with 3 steals.

"Bridget provided us a spark off the bench," said Lions coach Paul Bjerkness, whose teams meets Marist in an East Suburban Catholic Conference game Thursday night. "Susan played a very nice game for us."

Bjerkness was pleased with the Lions' defense.

"We did a great job holding them to 42 points," he said. "Mary Calov gave us a solid defensive game.

"It was a good team effort. The girls did a good job running the floor and a great job throwing the extra pass."

South Elgin 56, Rolling Meadows 47: Senior forward Kelly Zahorski led the host Mustangs (2-6) with 19 points in the nonconference game. Maddy Urban added 11 for the hosts while Sara Shumaker had 10 rebounds and Kelly Adair had 4 assists.

Deerfield 46, Maine West 41: Junior forward Megan O'Neill led visiting Maine West (6-3, 1-1) with 18 points, followed by Kelsey Hargesheimer (8), Sam Acosta (8) and Shaina Yalda (7) in the Central Suburban North contest.
