Briefs: Black Friday sales to benefit foundation

The Barnes and Noble bookstore in Spring Hill Mall is hosting a fundraiser for the District 300 Foundation for Educational Excellence, a nonprofit organization that supports educational programs in Community Unit District 300. On Friday, Nov. 28, a portion of all purchases made at the store will be donated to the foundation. To participate, pick up a voucher at the store on Nov. 28 and present it at the register. Store hosts food drive

Trader Joe's in Algonquin is hosting a food drive for Fiat Missionaries from Friday, Nov. 28, through Sunday, Nov. 30. Fiat Missionaries is a Huntley charity that provides furniture, food and financial counseling to local families in need. Trader Joe's at 1800 S. Randall Road will serve coffee and cookies to customers who bring in nonperishable food items. The items will be donated to Fiat Missionaries. Call (773) 443-7355.

Museum holiday exhibit opening delayed

The McHenry County Historical Society Museum's annual Christmas exhibit, "Mid Twentieth Century Main Street," will open free to the public on Thursday, Dec. 4. Museum hours are 1 to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. The open hours continue throughout the month with the exception of Dec. 24, 25, 26, and 31. The original opening date was to be Monday, Nov. 24.
