Standards cause nurse shortage

We are in hospitals, home care, nursing homes, and doctor's offices. Unfortunately school nursing is one of the lowest paying fields of nursing. Some school districts require a Type 73 certificate, available at only a few area colleges.

Anyone can go to the U-46 Web site and see that a part time registered nurse will be paid $17.50 per hour, while a cafeteria worker pay ranges from $11.15 to $15.80 per hour.

Good luck finding a nurse, who in these economic times, would be willing to spend the amount of money it costs to get the certificate to work for such low pay.

I can guarantee if school districts raised the salaries of nursing to a competitive level and waived the certificate requirement there would be no shortage.
