Dist. 158 union recognizes teachers

The Huntley Education Association, the teachers union in Huntley Unit District 158, has named its teachers of the month for October. Brenda Kunde, a fourth-grade teacher at Martin Elementary School in Lake in the Hills, is teacher of the month from the district's Reed Road campus. Chris Maxedon, a physical education teacher at Huntley High School, is teacher of the month for the Harmony Road campus. Paul Nordan, a guidance counselor at Heineman Middle School in Algonquin, is teacher of the month for the district's Square Barn Road campus.

PTO hosts fundraiser

The Eastview Elementary School PTO will hold a garage sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6. Items for sale include clothes, electronics, tools, toys, crafts, books, CDs and DVDs. The sale will be held in the Eastview gym, 540 Longwood Drive, Algonquin. The proceeds benefit the PTO.

Nomination packets are available online for people seeking a spot on Pingree Grove's village board. Visit elections.il.gov and download the 2009 candidates' guide. The deadline to fill everything out is Jan. 19. Forms must be returned to village hall by Jan. 26.

Closed for holiday

Algonquin's village hall and public works facility will be closed on Thanksgiving and the day after. That means refuse collection will be delayed by one day, with Thursday routes being collected on Friday, and Friday routes being picked up on Saturday.
