Board meeting

• This is American Education Week with theme of Great Public Schools: A Basic Right and Our Responsibility. Some schools will hold parent/teacher conferences. The board of education will issue proclamations thanking each employee group for its work on behalf of U-46 students. The U-46 Board of Education meets at 7 p.m. Monday in Room 140, Educational Services Center, 355 E. Chicago St., Elgin. The public is welcome to attend and provide citizen comments to the school board at the open meetings. Bartlett High

• On Wednesday, the Fall Orchestra Concert is at 7 p.m. at Bartlett High School, 701 Schick Road.

Elgin High

• On Thursday, Fall Band and Orchestra Concert is at 7 p.m. in the Elgin High School auditorium, 1200 Maroon Drive. Tickets are $1 for students and senior citizens, $2 for adults, and $6 for families.

Larkin High

• On Thursday, the VPAA Drama Academy presents "Broadway Night" at 7 p.m. at Larkin High School, 1475 Larkin Ave. Students perform songs or scenes from Broadway shows in this fundraiser. Cost is $5; all proceeds go to drama academy students to help fund trip to the Illinois Theatre Festival.

South Elgin High

• On Thursday, band students present a Band Concert at 7 p.m. at South Elgin High School, 760 E. Main St.

• On Saturday, the school holds a Fine Arts Expo from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visitors can buy original gifts including Artisan designs, crafts, jewelry, wood creations, pottery, home baked treats. Photos with Santa and face painting will be available. Free.

Abbott

• On Friday after school, Abbott Middle School students participate in the school's annual Turkey Trot, an obstacle course. First place winner in each division wins a turkey. Parents are invited.

Eastview

• On Thursday, the Eastview Middle School orchestra students in fifth and sixth grades present a concert at 7 p.m. at Bartlett High School, 701 Schick Road.

Tefft

• During the entire week, Tefft Middle School holds a Book Fair and Food Drive.

Hawk Hollow

• On Thursday at 6 p.m., Hawk Hollow Elementary School holds a Family Skate Night at Mainstreet USA Roller Rink, Streamwood. Rink will be closed to the public.

Laurel Hill

• On Thursday, an ELL/Bilingual Parenting Class will be from 9:45-11 a.m. in the new conference room at the school. All classes are free, taught in Spanish, and child care is available. The parenting class is taught by staff from Hanover Township Youth and Family Services and Laurel Hill School. Parents can attend to learn more about preparing their children to succeed in school, positive behavior, reinforce academic skills and ways to help your child with homework. Liberty

• On Monday at 6:30 p.m., second-graders present musical, "BUGZ," in the school gym.

Lincoln

• On Thursday, the Lincoln Elementary PTO sponsors a Family Reading and Math Night from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Lowrie

• On Monday, select fifth- and sixth-grade students from Lowrie Elementary present the musical "Treasure Island" at 7 p.m. at Larkin High School auditorium. Admission is free.

• On Thursday, Family Reading Night will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., featuring community readers including Superintendent Jose Torres and Mayor Ed Schock. Those attending are asked to bring a canned good for the food pantry. Admission is free.

Nature Ridge

• On Friday, fifth-graders at Nature Ridge Elementary School will participate in the DARE graduation at 9 a.m.

Prairieview

• On Wednesday, the Prairieview Elementary PTO sponsors a spaghetti dinner from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 per person, with a maximum of $20 per family. Get tickets at the door for $7 each with a maximum of $25 per family. Menu includes spaghetti, bread, salad, dessert and beverages. Raffle tickets, $1 each, can be purchased during dinner for prizes including Bears vs. Packers tickets. For details, call (630) 213-5603.

Sheridan

• On Thursday, Sheridan Elementary students to present a musical at 7 p.m. at the school.

Sycamore Trails

• On Monday, a Science Fair will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. in the school gym.

Timber Trails

• On Wednesday, a Watercolor Workshop will be held for Timber Trails Elementary students and their families from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the multi-purpose room. Materials are provided. The cost is $3 per student. Money goes into the school art supply fund.

Washington

• On Thursday, students in grades K-3 along with their parents, will participate in Bedtime Stories Night from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. at Washington Elementary School. Students wear their pajamas and bring their favorite stuffed animal. Cookies and milk will be served to youngsters after listening to stories being read by their teachers.
