Burkey concerned by college picks
Huntley Unit District 158 Superintendent John Burkey says he is concerned that few Huntley High School graduates are attending elite universities. In the Class of 2008, 93 percent said they planned to go to college, 49 percent hoped to attend a four-year college and 44 percent planned on junior college or technical school. The top schools graduates planned to attend included large state schools like the University of Michigan and smaller private schools like DePaul University. "I'm concerned by the few number of selective colleges we see on this list," Burkey said. "I just want to make sure that a student that is qualified for a university of that caliber knows what he has to do."
