Briefs: Fund at ECC for crash victim's family
A fund has been set up at Elgin Community College to assist the family of Marco Leon. Leon was one of four local teens killed in a car crash Nov. 1 in unincorporated Burlington Township. Contributions can be made by cash or check made out to ECC with "Leon Family Fund" in the memo area at the Student Accounts Office in Room 141 of the Student Resource Center, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. The drive will end on Nov. 19.
D301 to dispose of old student records:
Central Community Unit School District 301 will dispose of student temporary records from graduating classes of 2002 and 2003 on Nov. 15. Parents and students can request copies of these records prior to their destruction. Call (847) 464-6005 for information.
Petitions available for District 300:
Nominating petitions are available for residents of Community Unit District 300 who are interested in running for a seat on the school board. Three of seven seats are up for election in the spring: board Vice President Karen Roeckner, board Secretary Anne Miller and Mary Warren. Petitions are available between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at the district's administration building, 300 Cleveland Ave., Carpentersville. Petitions must be filed between Tuesday, Jan. 20 and Monday, Jan. 26 at the administration building. Call (847) 551-8344.
Food drive for food pantry:
Huntley residents are holding a Thanksgiving food drive to collect supplies for the Grafton Township Food Pantry. The pantry is seeking soap, toilet paper, facila tissue, toothpaste, shampoo, razors, coffee, tea, oatmeal, crackers, mayonnaise, mustard, pasta, cake mix, beef stew and canned chicken. Items can be dropped off from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Nov. 13 and 14 and from 9 a.m. to noon on Nov. 15. You can drop off items at 12222 Donahue Drive and 10855 Shenandoah Court, both in Huntley.
