Fire hits 2 cars and boat in Wauconda
Two cars and a boat were destroyed in an early morning garage fire on Dorothy Court in Island Lake on Wednesday, Wauconda fire officials said.
Fire investigator Tomm Smithe said Wauconda fire crews arrived at 4:09 a.m. and found a detached garage with the two vehicles fully engulfed in flames.
He said the extreme heat from the flames ignited a boat on a trailer outside of the garage before the fire migrated to the home. The home sustained damage to two rooms and the attic, he added.
"The wind wasn't really a factor, but the radiant heat from the fire caused the fire to move rapidly," Smithe said.
He said there were no injuries in the fire, and the blaze was under control in 30 minutes.
Cost of damages was estimated to be about $125,000 and the cause of the fire is under investigation, he said.
Wauconda was assisted at the scene by fire crews from Fox Lake and Nunda Township and the Island Lake Police Department.
