AKC updates breed standard for chihuahuas

Shows and Trials: Car-Dun-Al Dog Training Club will have Obedience and Rally Trials on Saturday, Nov. 8 at Kane County Fairgrounds, Roosevelt Road and Route 38 in St. Charles.
• Fox Valley Dog Training Club will host the club's 57th Annual Obedience Trial and Second Rally Trial on Sunday, Nov. 9. They will also be at Kane County Fairgrounds in St. Charles. Judging will start at 8 a.m. and will continue until approximately 3 p.m. Adding to the day's activities, will be dog related merchandise booths. Food will also be available. Tracking and TDX: The Weimaraner Club of Northern Illinois will hold Tracking Tests and Tracking Tests Excellent on Sunday, Nov. 9 at Burnidge/Paul Wolff Forest Preserve at Big Timber and Coombs roads in Elgin.
• Lincolnwood Dog Training Club for German Shepherd Dogs will be at the same site for the same menu on Sunday, Nov. 23. Trial secretary is Georgia Cawley of Long Grove.
Agility: WI-IL Agility Club of Spring Grove will have Agility Trials on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 15 and 16. They will be in the WAGS Building at 7705-D Industrial Court in Spring Grove.
Breed Specialty: Fox River Field Spaniel Club will hold a Breed Specialty on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 15 and 16, at For Your Canine, 4233 United Pkwy. in Schiller Park. During the two days there will be conformation, junior showmanship, obedience, puppy sweepstakes and rally.
New Class Sessions: Rand Park Dog Training Club's next new class sessions will begin with orientation on Tuesday, Dec. 2 in the Des Plaines Leisure Center, Touhy Avenue and Birch Street. Visit randparkdtc.org or call Gloria at (847) 825-3318 for registration information.
Guest Speakers: Beth Taylor, co-author of See Spot Live Longer, will be guest speaker for Lincolnwood Training Club's Fall Lecture from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 16, in the clubhouse at Central and Dearlove roads in Glenview. Price is $5 per person, which includes a light brunch. The speaker, who has spent the last 15 years teaching dog trainers, owners and veterinarians how to train, exercise and feed their dogs, will end the program with a question-and-answer session.
