Rockets 2nd at 2A regional

Burlington Central's boys golf team didn't exactly tear up the course at Phillips Park in Aurora Tuesday, but the Rockets' 321 was good enough to advance to next Monday's Marian Central sectional at Crystal Woods.

Senior Peter Cappas shot a 75 to finish second overall, and senior Sam Schmalz had a 78 to lead the Rockets. Sophomore Matt Allison had an 82 and senior Dave Hartwell an 86 for BC.

Marian Central, led my medalist Stefan Johnson's 74, won the team title with a 304. Sycamore secured the third team qualifying spot with a 323.

"I'm very happy with how our boys played today," said Burlington Central coach Brody Hamel. "They've had a fantastic season so far and will hopefully continue it next Monday at sectionals."

Hampshire also advanced two individuals to Crystal Woods as junior Grant Yoder shot an 80 and his freshman brother Jeremy an 85. The cut was 87.

Class 1A: St. Edward sophomore Eric Winters (77) and Green Wave freshman Mike Holevas (80) advanced out of the Class 1A Driscoll sectional at Glendale Lakes and will play next Monday in the Byron sectional at Prairie View. The Green Wave failed to qualify as a team, though, shooting a 345 for fourth place. Chicago Latin (328) and North Shore Country Day (334) secured the team spots. Timothy Christian's Andrew Woodhull was the medalist with a 70.
