Larkin student arrested on charges of giving dean black eye

A Larkin High School student was held in Elgin lockup Tuesday on $5,000 bond for punching one of the school's deans in the face, police said.

Matthew C. Greenlee, 17, was charged with aggravated battery and criminal damage to property after being arrested around 8 a.m. at the Elgin school, 1475 Larkin Ave., police said

Larkin Dean Richard Lebron stepped in the middle of a fight between Greenlee and another student around 7:45 a.m. Tuesday morning. Greenlee punched Lebron in the left eye, and was booked and processed shortly after, police said.

At bond call Wednesday morning, Greenlee told a judge that he was standing up for his girlfriend.

Greenlee was released on bond Wednesday morning.

School officials declined to comment on the incident, citing it as an internal student matter.
