Bartlett High
• On Monday from 5 to 8 p.m., "Hawkfest" will be held in the Bartlett High parking lot.
• On Wednesday at 6 and 7:30 p.m., the powder puff football games will take place at Millennium Field.
• On Friday at 1:40 p.m., the homecoming assembly will take place in the Bartlett High gym. The homecoming game begins at 7 p.m. at Millennium Field.
• On Saturday, the homecoming dance will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. in the Bartlett High gym.
Elgin High
• On Sunday, the homecoming parade will begin at 1 p.m. Everyone is invited to meet after the event at the new downtown restaurant Mad Maggies on South Grove Avenue.
Larkin High
• On Monday, homecoming week begins with a powder puff football game at Memorial Field at 5 p.m.
• On Friday, a pep assembly will be held at 1:15 p.m., followed by the parade at 2:30 p.m. The homecoming game will begin at 5 p.m.; the varsity game begins at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Field.
• On Saturday, the homecoming dance will be held.
South Elgin High
• On Monday, students will begin homecoming week with "Go Green Day" with emphasis on recycling. Everyone has been asked to wear green and think green.
On Tuesday, students will celebrate "Decade Day." Each class will dress like a particular decade.
• On Wednesday, students will celebrate "Class T-shirt Day." Each class will represent a super hero and their cause.
• On Thursday, "Awareness Day" will be celebrated. Money will be collected during lunch hours all week, and the profits will be divided and sent to various groups such as our troops in Iraq, the Big Brother Big Sister organization, autism, cancer, and "Save the Music" by Student Council members. Also on Thursday, there will also be powder puff football games at Millennium Field. The first game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. The second game will begin at 7 p.m.
• On Friday, Spirit Day will be celebrated. There will be a pep assembly at 2 p.m. in the gym. There will be a cookout supper with alumni, athletic teams, parents and students, followed by movie night in the commons area after the cookout.
• On Saturday, the football games take place at Millennium Field. The sophomore game is at 9:30 a.m. followed by the varsity game at noon. The homecoming dance will be held at 7 p.m. in the gym.
Glenbrook
• On Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Glenbrook Elementary School will hold its annual walkathon. This event, sponsored by the Parent Teacher Group, is the largest fundraiser of the year. It will include an opening ceremony which many Streamwood community leaders will attend. After the walk, students will have a hot dog lunch.
Illinois Park
• On Wednesdays, a parent support group in Spanish will meet from 11:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the Illinois Park Early Learning Center, 1350 Wing St. in Elgin. Baby-sitting is available. You do not have to call ahead.
Woodland Heights
• On Thursdays, a parent support group in Spanish will meet from 11:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the school located at 900 S. Park Blvd. in Streamwood. Baby-sitting is available. You do not have to call ahead.
Parents as Teachers
In Parents as Teachers, children (infant to age 5) have the opportunity to play with other children without leaving the security of their parent's side. A certified Parent Educator hosts each play group and provides suggestions and guidance to help parents understand how their children grow.
• On Mondays, PAT (Parents as Teachers) will host a drop-in play group from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Lowrie Elementary School, 264 Oak St. Enter through door #1.
• On Tuesdays, PAT (Parents as Teachers) will host a drop-in play group from 12:15 to 1:45 p.m. at Woodland Heights Early Learning Center, 900 S. Park Blvd. in Streamwood.
• On Thursdays, PAT (Parents as Teachers) will host a drop-in play group from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Independence School, 200 Taylor St. in Bartlett. Use the main entrance. • On Thursdays, PAT (Parents as Teachers) will host a drop-in play group from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at McKinley Elementary School, 258 Lovell St. in Elgin. Use the main entrance.
• On Fridays, PAT will host a drop-in play group from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Illinois Park Early Learning Center, 1350 Wing St. in Elgin.
• On Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon, PAT will host a family drop-in and open gym with bilingual staff at Gifford Street High School, 46 S. Gifford St. in Elgin.
In other news
• During the month of October, Glenbrook Elementary School is hosting a food supply drive for our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Hanover Township will ship the supplies.
