Seeger, Ojuri keep Broncos' offense flying

Barrington's offense had no letdown Friday at Hoffman Estates.

The Broncos' high-octane offense scored on their first three possessions, then watched as Hoffman pulled within 11 points at halftime.

Barrington (5-0, 1-0) then answered with three quick scores in the third quarter and its defense withstood a resilient Hoffman attack in rolling to a 41-27 Mid-Suburban West victory.

The Broncos offense has been in high gear, averaging 37 points the past three games.

"The number one thing is we did enough good things, but they (Hoffman) kept fighting," said Barrington coach Joe Sanchez. "The offense is a very experienced group and they understand what we're trying to do. They're a fun group and when they get it rolling there are a lot of good things."

The Broncos offense had it rolling on Friday by gaining 533 total yards.

Quarterback Cody Seeger was nearly perfect in completing 17-of-20 passes for 277 yards and 1 touchdown. The 5-foot-10 senior also scrambled for 77 yards on 8 carries.

"Everything is clicking," added Seeger of the Broncos' attack that jumped to a 24-0 lead with 9:21 remaining in the second quarter. "We're throwing the ball great and the receivers are picking up big yards after the catch."

While the passing game was humming the running game led by senior Sam Ojuri was rumbling.

Ojuri rushed for 175 yards on 22 carries and had scoring runs of 48, 35, and 4 yards.

"Our O-line is doing an awesome job," said Ojuri, "And we have so many weapons, I think every one of our skill players has scored. I just think we're on a roll and we still have room to get better."

And the defense chipped in as defensive back Brett Seeger returned an interception 23 yards to give the Broncos a 24-0 lead early in the second quarter.

But Hoffman (2-3, 0-1) showed a spark on offense, too.

Donovan Crawford's 43-yard return on the ensuing kickoff gave Hoffman the ball at Barrington's 47. Shamar McFarlane's 27-yard run put the Hawks on the 8 and two plays later the junior scored on a 1-yard run.

Foyin Alade added a 25-yard scoring run to narrow the Hawks deficit to 24-13 at halftime.

Senior quarterback Frank Wadas completed 10-of-21 passes for 127 yards, including a 9-yard scoring toss to Joe Gricius in the third quarter. Wadas added a 1-yard plunge midway through the fourth quarter.

Hoffman recovered the onside kick, but the Broncos defense halted any further damage to keep their perfect record intact.

"We showed a lot resolve," said Hoffman coach Bill Helzer, whose team was held to a combined 10 points in its last two games. "Our kids fought back and the offense did a good job of moving the ball."
