Homecoming hullabaloo: High schools gear up for fall festivities

Floats, football and fun marked Harry D. Jacobs High School's homecoming events in Algonquin last week, just as they will color homecoming events for Dundee-Crown and Elgin's St. Edward Central Catholic high schools this weekend and for Hamsphire, Crystal Lake South, Prairie Ridge, Elgin, Marian Central and South Elgin high schools in coming days.

Unfortunately for Jacobs, the Golden Eagles lost to the Huntley Red Raiders (36-0) but homecoming is about more than just the game.

It's an annual rite, these parades into fall that take some of us down memory lane and some of us into a weekend of fun that will, decades later, be recalled as among those high school highlights to treasure.

•Has your school or group just had a special event? Or is it about to have one? Send your photos and press releases to foxvalley@dailyherald.com and we'll share those special moments, including photos of each school's homecoming court, with our readers.
