Schneider duel goes to Carly

Sisters Erin and Carly Schneider have been enjoying success on the golf course this season.

Erin has helped lead a young St. Edward team to a 6-3 start, while Carly is helping the Bartlett/South Elgin/Streamwood co-op to its best start since South Elgin joined the squad.

The duo got an extra boost when their respective teams faced off at Villa Oliva in match play Thursday.

Carly and the Bartlett/South Elgin/Streamwood co-op got the best of things as she was one of three players to finish with a 47 to give it a 191. Erin shot a 49 as the Green Wave finished with a 205.

"She got me a little more serious," Erin said." We had to stop on the second hole because we hadn't said a word to each other. It was fun."

The co-op also got 47s from Andrea Mastro and Kaitlyn Boehne, while freshman Sam Coyne contributed a 50.

Neither Mastro nor Boehne were too thrilled with their performances. Mastro needed to compensate for her shaky drives with her chipping and putting.

"(My drives) were going everywhere," Mastro said. "They just wouldn't go straight. My chipping and putting was good to make up for my drives."

Boehne started out the day by recording 8 strokes on hole 1, but compensated by shooting a 39 in the final 8. The junior's nagging shoulder injury caused her to shoot a 52 on Monday and she took Tuesday off to rest it. The lingering effects were evident Thursday.

"I wasn't prepared," said Boehne, who normally shoots in the mid 40s. "I wasn't ready for the pain."

The Green Wave found themselves on the opposite side of the spectrum as Brit Schreurs tied her season mark of 48. Baley Roth (58) and Kelsey Richmond (50) also contributed scores in the loss.

"(Coach) Mike (Lehman) helped me a lot with correcting my posture and having a better swing," Schreurs said. "I paid a lot of attention to my posture."

This was the first time that Schreurs shot a 48 at Villa Oliva. The junior played a consistent round, which also made coach Mike Lehman take notice of her changes.

"I talk to all of the girls about the little elements of golf," he said. "We work mainly on our endurance and swing posture throughout 9 holes. Brit did really well with that today."
