Most schools reopening Tuesday; Des Plaines grade schools still closed

For a second day in a row, Des Plaines Elementary District 62 will be closed Tuesday due to flooding conditions.

District officials said North and Central Elementary schools are surrounded by floodwaters, making them inaccessible.

Orchard Place and South Elementary schools experienced got some flooding in their basements but the water had been pumped out and the areas are drying out.

Other school districts will be back to school tomorrow.

Wood Dale Elementary District 7 will be back on track tomorrow, said Superintendent John Corbett. Schools were not flooded, but major roads like Thorndale Avenue and Irving Park Road were closed.

"There was no way to get kids back and forth across the road," Corbett said.

Those roads were opened today, so kids will get back to learning again, he said.

Maine Township High School District 207 schools will be open Tuesday, according to its Web site. No more information was available as the administration offices were closed today.

Carol Stream Elementary District 93 will also be open, said Carole Ellermeier, District 93's community relations coordinator.

However, buses may run late Tuesday as many routes will be temporarily changed to avoid flooded roads, Ellermeier said.
