Wauconda roars past Orr

The early stages of the football game looked like it was going to be a competitive one between host Wauconda and Chicago Orr on Friday night.

But after Wauconda recovered a punt that bounced off of Orr's Denzel Whitaker deep in Orr territory in the opening quarter, it was all down hill for the visiting Spartans.

The Bulldogs (1-1) would score their first touchdown with 7:36 left in the first quarter, take a commanding 30-0 advantage into halftime, and roll to an impressive 39-0 non-conference victory over Orr.

Senior quarterback Garrett Dorsey got the Bulldogs' offense going as his 9-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver John Motley was followed by Michael Mrohen's extra point for a quick 7-0 lead.

Penalties plagued Orr (0-2) throughout the first half, but it was an interception by Wauconda's Eric Blomberg that set up the Bulldogs second scoring drive.

Starting at the Orr 46-yard-line, Wauconda senior Sean Lichterman carried most of the offensive load as Lichterman scored the TD on a 4-yard run off right tackle after breaking off a 19-yard run earlier in the drive. Mrohen's second extra point made the score 14-0 with 3:21 remaining in the opening quarter.

A blocked punt deep in Orr territory would give the Bulldogs the ball on the Spartans 2 as Lichterman scored on a 2-yard run for a 21-0 lead with 28 seconds left in the first quarter.

A bad snap on a punt would give Wauconda good field position again early in the second quarter as senior David Meeks' 5-yard TD run would cap a short 16-yard drive to give the Bulldogs a 28-0 advantage with 10:20 left in the first half.

A snap over the Orr punter's head and out of the end zone resulted in a safety and a 30-0 Bulldogs lead 3:21 before intermission.

"We had a good offensive night tonight and I got some good blocks out there," said Lichterman, who had 47 yards on seven carries. "The defense played very well and (Orr) only got on our side of the field two or three times in the whole game."
