Dist. 300 school board to vote on teachers' aides contract

The Community Unit District 300 school board on Monday will vote on a 5-year contract for classroom teachers' aides.

The deal, voted in by union members Sept. 3, offers a 4.88-percent raise next year and 4.5-percent increases during the second through fifth years.

Medical insurance benefits would not change for aides under the new contract, according to a Friday release from the district.

The board would continue to pay 80 percent of health insurance premiums for singles and 70 percent for families.

Tuition reimbursement would increase to $86 from $70 for approved courses, and benefit time will be converted from days to hours. The new deal also increases aides' probationary period from 75 work days to 140 calendar days.

The school board will vote on the proposal during its regular 7:30 p.m. meeting at the District's central office in Carpentersville.

Union President Michele Meyer called negotiations positive. "This being a 5-year contract helps give stability to students and (the district) as a whole," she said in the release.
