Chicago White Sox Trip: Motor coach leaves 10:30 a.m. Aug. 14 from the Barn in Paulus Park, 200 S. Rand Road, Lake Zurich. See the Sox play the Kansas City Royals. Ages 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Motor coach returns around 6 p.m. $40 for residents of Lake Zurich, $48 for nonresidents. For information, call (847) 438-5146.
Lake Villa Cross-town Classic: 10 a.m. Aug. 16, Lake Villa Baseball Park, Grass Lake Road, Lake Villa. Teams that include mayors, trustees, police officers, firefighters and village employees from Lake Villa, Antioch, Lindenhurst and Fox Lake will compete in a softball tournament to raise funds for the continuous improvement and upkeep of the award-winning baseball park. Weather permitting, the event will include the "Helicopter Ball Drop" raffle around 4:30.
Girls In-House Softball: Evaluation days (prospective players must attend one) Ages 7-8: noon to 1 p.m. Aug. 16; ages 9-10: 1-2 p.m. Aug. 16; ages 11-14: 2-3 p.m. Aug. 16, Central Park Aquatic Softball Field, 250 Library Lane, Grayslake. Practices begin the week of Sept. 1; games run Sept. 13 to Oct. 18. Players should bring a glove. Cost is $80 for Grayslake Park District residents, $100 for nonresidents for ages 7-8, $90 for residents, $113 for nonresidents for ages 9-14. 11th Annual Cardboard Boat Regatta: Registration starts at 8 a.m., race at noon, Aug. 17, Lakefront Building, 71 Nippersink Blvd., Fox Lake. $25 for the kit, which includes cardboard and duct tape. Ponies Flag Football: Evaluation days (players must attend one) Age 5-6, 5-6 p.m.; ages 7-8, 6-7 p.m.; ages 9-14, 7-8 p.m., Aug. 18 or 20, Alleghany Park, Grayslake. This league is designed to teach boys and girls ages 5-14 the basics of football. Teams will practice once a week beginning the week of Sept. 1 and have games on Saturdays, Sept. 13-Oct. 18. Girls Travel Softball: 10U: 9-10:30 a.m.; 12U: 10:30 to noon; 14U: 12-1:30 p.m.; 16U: 1:30-3 p.m. Aug. 23, rain date Aug. 24; and 10U: 1-2:30 p.m.; 12U: 2:30-4 p.m.; 14U: 4-5:30 p.m.; 16U: 5:30-7 p.m. Aug. 30, rain date Aug. 31, Aquatic Softball Field, 250 Library Lane, Grayslake. Tennis classes: Classes begin the week of Aug. 25, Racquet Club of Lake Bluff, 945 N. Shore Drive, Lake Bluff. Registration is being accepted for fall junior and adult tennis classes. A nine-week Mini-Tennis class for ages 4-11 is $171. Adult classes, including beginner through advanced skill levels, are $311 for a nine-week class and $276 for an eight-week class.
