Elgin Kennel Club sets upcoming shows, trials

Elgin Kennel Club's weekend of all-breed conformation shows and obedience and rally trials will be Aug. 23 and 24 at Kane County Fairground's West Field on Roosevelt Road (Rte. 38), 1/4 mile west of Randall Road in St. Charles. Rings will be on the grass with generous tenting and ample parking.

Specialties on Saturday will include Fort Dearborn Basset Club. Basset Regional will follow Best in Show. Supported entries on Sunday will also be Fort Dearborn Basset Club plus Border Collie Society of America.

Tracking Deadline: Fox Valley Dog Training Club has set Aug. 20 as deadline to enter its tracking tests to be held Sept. 7. They will be in Burnidge Forest Preserve and Paul Wolff Campgrounds at Big Timber and Coombs roads in Elgin. Entry fee is $50. Send entry and fee made payable to the club to Ingrid Hamburger, Trial Secretary, 5N637 Hazelwood Trace, St. Charles, IL 60175-8123.

• Fox Valley's Tracking Tests Excellent (TDX) deadline is also Aug. 20 with tests also on Sept. 7. Entry fee is $100. Entry and fee also go to Ingrid Hamburger.

Lincolnwood deadline: Lincolnwood Training Club for German Shepherd Dogs has set Aug. 27 as deadline to enter the club's 68th obedience trial and fourth rally trial to be held Sept. 14. They will be on the club grounds at Central and Dearlove roads in Glenview. Entry fees are $28 plus $18 for a second entry of the same dog. Obedience entries with fee made payable to the club go to Cathy Stein, Obedience Trial Secretary, 6456 N. Leroy, Lincolnwood, IL 60712. Included will be the Annual Pride on Parade, which will follow the opening ceremonies at 8:30 a.m. There is no age requirement, but entry must be included with your trial entry plus a $10 fee. Also include a typed or printed description of the reasons that make you proud of your dog.

CGC Tests: Paws R Us K9s will hold the next AKC Canine Good Citizen tests at 8 p.m. on Aug. 28. They will be in the training area at 503 Sundown in South Elgin. For more information, Call Penny at (847) 882-5342.
