Briefs: Trustee appointed in Lisle

Ken Modaff was sworn in this week as a member of the Lisle village board. Modaff was appointed to fill the remaining term of Tom Frey, who resigned in July to move to Iowa. The unexpired term runs until May 2009. Modaff is the founder and president of Isoprime Corporation, a Lisle-based computer software company that develops software for education and health-care institutions. Modaff was a member of Lisle's planning and zoning commission for five years. He is currently on the board of directors for the Lisle Convention and Visitor's Bureau and is a member of the Lisle Area Chamber of Commerce.

Aurora libraries close Aug. 22

All Aurora Public Library locations will be closed Aug. 22 for the annual staff development day. Regular hours will resume at 9 a.m. Aug. 23. For details, call (630) 264-4101.

Lombard a finalist

The National League of Cities announced that Lombard is a finalist for the 2008 Awards for Municipal Excellence, which recognizes towns for programs that improve the quality of life. From the 173 nominations received, 57 programs were selected as finalists. The winners of the 2008 awards will be announced in November at NCL's exposition in Orlando, Fla.

District 200 registration day

Wheaton Warrenville Unit District 200 is holding an enrollment and registration event from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Outreach Community Center, 345 S. President St., Carol Stream. The event is for students from the Carol Stream area of District 200 entering kindergarten through eighth grade who need to register for the 2008-2009 school year.
