Briefs: Gurnee police seek suspect
Gurnee police say a burglar alarm was tripped early Monday after a man used a ventilation system to enter the Family Dollar store, 3251 Grand Ave. Police said the suspect made an unsuccessful attempt to open the store's safe. Authorities were summoned to the Family Dollar at 12:43 a.m. They said an air return leading to the building was cut, allowing the suspect to enter. The man was gone when police arrived. Authorities said a store security camera captured the suspect's image. Anyone with information about the reported burglary is asked to call Gurnee police at (847) 599-7000 or Lake County CrimeStoppers at (847) 662-2222. CrimeStoppers takes anonymous tips. Tipsters are eligible for a cash award.
Preschool screening
Preschool screening for the 2008-09 school year for Wauconda Unit District 118 will be offered Aug. 27 and Sept. 8. Screening is open to all preschoolers aged 3 to 5 years who live within the district boundaries. The screening provides parents with information about their child's growth and development in terms of cognition, motor skills, speech, language, social and emotional aspects, vision and hearing. Barrington library hosts tropical concert
The Barrington Area Library is hosting another of its summer concert series on Friday. Steel drummers Dave Seagren will play a variety of tropical music starting at 8 p.m. in the library's main meeting room. Refreshments will be served following the concert.
