Lake in the Hills breaks out the barbecue

Looking to try the best ribs in the land but don't have the funds to travel? For $3 admission, Lake in the Hills brings them all to your doorstep.

The Lake in the Hills Rotary Club will hold its third annual Rockin' Rotary Ribfest for four days beginning at 4:30 p.m. today at Sunset Park.

The outdoor event will cater to both the belly and the budget.

"Many of us aren't taking vacations this year," said Rib Fest co-chair Tom Stock. "But this will be a great place to gather as a community and enjoy good food, drink and bands."

Like a giant summer barbecue, Rib Fest will feature all the seasonal treats your taste buds are craving. Barbecue, funnel cake, french fries, and roasted corn are all on the menu. Refreshing lemonade and more adult beverages will also be available.

The seven rib vendors hail from all over, even as far as Australia. All are members of the National Barbecue Cookers Association, and all claim to have the most delectable recipe you'll ever taste.

In addition to trying every robbers' wares, guests will also be treated to an assortment of local musical talent. Each day the Fest boasts an eclectic roster of bands, including headliners The Smithereens, Sonic Flood, Lounge Puppets and Mike and Joe.

A classic car show and participants in the Sunset Idol contest will also be featured.

Rib Fest is the major fundraiser for the Rotary Club, which gives to local charities, including Turning Point and the Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Food Pantry. All admission proceeds go directly toward helping these valuable organizations.

So this weekend, take in the delicious eats and entertainment, all for a good cause.

"It's good for McHenry County, and good for your stomach!" said Stock.
