Briefs: Pub preps for re-opening

Ye Olde Town Inn in Mount Prospect will reopen partially at 3 p.m. today, offering hotdogs and beer with the expectation to fully open next month. The restaurant side of the Ye Olde Town Inn will not be open until further kitchen renovations are completed, but the pub will be available for patrons, said owner Tod Curtis. The establishment at 18 W. Busse Ave. in downtown Mount Prospect has been closed since April 11 after the village shut it down for code violations that included structural, plumbing and electrical problems. Curtis said he's offering $1 beer and $1 hotdogs daily through July. He hopes to open the kitchen again in about two weeks, he said. The building, which Curtis owns and which houses the restaurant, apartments, offices and retail space, is in the middle of condemnation proceedings with the village, which wants to acquire it for a downtown redevelopment project.

Skate competition canceled

A Schaumburg Park District skateboard competition that had been scheduled for Saturday at Olympic Park has been canceled because not enough skaters have registered. A preview of the competition appears in Eric Peterson's column in some of today's Neighbor editions. That section went to press Thursday before the cancellation was announced.
