Artists invited to join in survey

The city of Elgin and Artspace Projects is working together on their vision of creating affordable live/work space for artists.

In March, Artspace and the city conducted a two-day, prefeasibility visit and evaluated the potential for such a project to succeed. The findings report was positive and the city is now in the process of preparing for an in-depth artist market space needs survey.

Your participation in this survey will help Artspace understand living and working space needs, determine if there is enough interest to justify funding for a project, decide what size project would best serve the community, and to ultimately design a better facility.

They encourage any interested artist to sign up for the market survey. Send your name and address to reedus_j@cityofelgin.org before July 3. You will receive an announcement when the survey is active and available for your participation. The city will conduct a public meeting on July 24 at the Heritage Ballroom on the importance of the survey and your participation.

The survey will be conducted during the summer of 2008. Refer your artist friends and colleagues to sign up for the survey. Also please sign up at www.cityofelgin.org to receive updated information on the progress of the project on the city's home page Elgin E-News Sign-up. Any questions please call Jan Reedus at (847) 931-5592.
