Eyes in the skies

Illinois State Police used airplanes to issue 22 tickets and five written warnings Friday in a sting that targeted speeding drivers in Kane County, authorities said Monday. The air patrols, from 1 to 3 p.m. on Randall Road between Crane and Silver Glen roads north of St. Charles, were the first in Kane County so far this year, police said. Speeding drivers were located by aircraft and stopped by waiting troopers. Additional stings are planned throughout the summer in Kane and DeKalb counties. Also, state troopers in patrol cars conducted an anti-speeding blitz Saturday along Route 173 between the McHenry County line to Zion in Lake County. The sting resulted in 309 arrests and 103 written warnings, police said.
