Wrap: Howlett leads Charger victory

Lauren Howlett had a home run and a double Tuesday as Dundee-Crown's softball team posted a 10-7 Fox Valley Conference crossover victory over Crystal Lake Central.

Dana Schultz added 2 hits for the Chargers (3-11) while Emilie Kerkman picked up the win in the circle.

Softball

Bartlett 4, Waubonsie Valley 3: Elizabeth Kay had a home run and Bartlett (18-5, 14-0) scored 2 runs in the top of the seventh inning to avoid an upset in Aurora. Callie Dennison (5-2) picked up the win in the circle for the Hawks, striking out two and walking four.

Aurora Christian 15, Westminster 9: Sarah Serrato was 4-for-5 with 3 runs scored and 3 stolen bases and Katie Moeller had 2 hits with a triple and 3 RBI but Westminster (4-10, 2-2) fell to Aurora Christian in the Private School League. Moeller also suffered the loss in the circle.

St. Edward 3, St. Francis 2:: Megan Pozezinski and Lea Diaz broke up a scoreless game with back-to-back home runs as St. Edward (12-11, 7-4) prevailed in the Suburban Catholic Conference. Erin McGraw and Kristina Brockner each had doubles for the Green Wave. Sarah Field picked up the win with 5 strikeouts in 5 innings. McGraw earned the save.

Prairie Ridge 8, Grayslake North 3: Anna Patras (2B), Kari Rankin (2B) and Katie Schillinger each had 2 hits as Prairie Ridge (13-8, 7-3) won in the Fox Valley Fox. Johanna Turner (6-5) struck out 10 and walked one in earning the win.

Elgin 14, East Aurora 2: Kelly Patchett allowed just 4 hits and had 6 strikeouts with no walks as Elgin (3-14, 3-8) won in the Upstate Eight. Devin Hayes had a double for the Maroons.

Jacobs 13, CL South 2: Marissa Lombarto struck out four, walked two and allowed just 4 hits as Jacobs (18-2, 9-0) rolled in the FVC Valley. Lizzie Andrews had a double and a home run for the Golden Eagles while Lauren Arceneaux was 2-for-4 with a double and Sara Jacobson added 2 hits. Jessica Gable suffered the loss for the Gators.

South Elgin 10, Larkin 2: The Storm (13-7, 7-7) pounded out 15 hits incljuding 3 home runs to down Larkin (4-17, 4-9) in the Upstate Eight. Lauren Vitiello had 3 hits with a homer and 2 RBI, while Katelyn Stonecipher (2 doubles), Kim Pierce (2B, HR, 3 RBI), Courtney Bosteder (2B), Layla Ismajlaj (2B, 3B, 2 RBI) and Alyssa Krause (RBI) each had 2 hits. Caitie Stredde also had a home run and 3 RBI for the Storm. Cary Thereon threw a 3-hitter with 3 strikeouts and no walks for the win. Sophie Sterricker had 2 of Larkin's hits, including a home run, and 2 RBI. Heather Graff suffered the loss.

Neuqua Valley 4, Streamwood 3: Barb Posinger suffered the loss for Streamwood in this Upstate Eight game in Naperville. Melissa Abraham had a double and an RBI for the Sabres (6-20, 6-9) while Arielle Gallione and Beth McRill each added doubles.

Marengo 3, Hampshire 0: Sarah Steinman threw a no-hitter at Hampshire in this Big Northern East game. Allie Kent was the losing pitcher.

Boys volleyball

St. Edward d. IMSA: The Green Wave (6-13) came out on top in nonconference action. Will Lytle and Jim Waclawic both led at the net posting 7 kills with 3 blocks. Lucas Belcher also contributed putting down 5 kills and collecting 6 digs. Tyler Vaughn (10 digs) and Jack Cholewa (11 digs) added to the win.

Streamwood d. Larkin: In three games the Sabres were able to pull out a win over Larkin 21-25, 25-12, 25-15. Lewis Coletti led Streamwood tallying 36 assists with 14 digs and 3 kills. Kevin Wohlhart posted 11 kills while Brandon Nelson added 7 kills with 6 digs. For Larkin Brendyn Dobbeck collected 18 assists while Brad Potts posted 10 kills with 2 blocks. Joe Leganski recorded 8 kills.

Bartlett d. Elgin: The Hawks (13-10, 4-2) defeated Elgin in the Upstate Eight Conference 25-17, 25-13. Chris Guimon led Bartlett with 4 kills and 4 aces. Sam Hillis also put away 8 kills while Anthony Urgena and Ryan Lynch each recorded 4 digs. Setter Jason Theobold recorded 17 assists for the Hawks.

Neuqua Valley d. South Elgin: The Storm (7-18, 2-6) battled Neuqua Valley but fell in the Upstate Eight Conference 25-20, 25-13. Doug Sawyer led the Storm with 7 kills. Andrew Gleason added 4 kills for South Elgin.

College baseball

St. Ambrose 9, Judson 3:

Judson (18-24) fell in the first round of the NAIA regional in Joliet. Brett Ehrlich led Judson going 4-for-5 at the dish with an RBI while Oscar DePablos was 3-for-4 with an RBI. Alci Gonzales took the loss. Judson will now play in the loser's bracket vs. St. Francis at 10 a.m. today.
