Wrap: Judson ties school wins mark

The Judson University softball team split its two games at the CCAC tournament Wednesday, losing to Saint Xavier 6-2 and then staving off elimination with a 5-4 win over Cardinal Stritch, a win that tied the Judson single-season record for wins at 23.

The Eagles (23-22) will take on either St. Francis or Robert Morris at noon today in an elimination game.

In the loss to Saint Xavier, Lizzy Jacobson took the loss for Judson. Tricia Lakotish was 2-for-3 and Nicole Dimiceli was 2-for-4 with a double to lead Judson.

Debra Leganski hit her 13th home run of the season to lead Judson in the win over Cardinal Stritch.

Aimee Ewert picked up her 11th win of the season, striking out 10.

Softball

Carmel 3, Cary-Grove 2: Despite a solid showing inside the circle from Kristen Bauer (7-4) who allowed 2 earned runs in 6¿ innings of work, Cary-Grove (12-8) fell in this nonconference game.

Alexa Haley (3b, run), Maggie O'Brien (hit, run, RBI) and Amanda Listak (hit) led the Trojan offense.

Johnsburg 11, Huntley 3: Huntley (13-8, 6-2) fell behind early in this Fox Valley Conference Fox Division contest and couldn't battle back. Samantha Clemons (3 IP, 5 runs, 3 earned runs, 2 strikeouts) endured the loss, while plate efforts were led by Amanda Wisniewski (2-for-3, HR, 2 RBI, run) and Alexys Robbins (hit, run, RBI).

St. Charles North 4, South Elgin 3: Knotted at 2-2 after seven innings, South Elgin (13-4, 6-4) pulled ahead in the top of the eighth inning with a run. However, St. Charles North countered with 2 runs to defeat the Storm in Upstate Eight Conference play and snap a 9-game win streak for the Storm.

Cary Thereon endured the tough loss inside the circle for South Elgin.

CL South 17, CL Central 7: The Crystal Lake South (12-6) bats came to life for this cross-town and Fox Valley Conference crossover victory. Samantha Hardie (2-for-3, 2b, run), Natalie Andrade (2-for-2, 2 RBI) and Becky Yaworski (3-for-4, 4 RBI) led the way. In the circle, Emily Mahoney (5-0) earned the win pitching all 5 innings of this shortened game allowing 7 runs (5 earned) on 7 hits with 5 strikeouts.

Marian Central 4, St. Edward 1: With 2 hits, Celeste Von Ahnen led St. Edward (10-11, 6-4) at the plate in this 4-1 Suburban Catholic Conference loss. Stephanie Werner, Kelly Knott and Kristi Knott each added single hits. In the circle, Erin McGraw suffered the loss allowing 4 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits while striking out three.

St. Charles East 2, Streamwood 1: Taking a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning, Streamwood (4-15, 4-8) lost a heartbreaker allowing 2 runs in the bottom of the inning for this Upstate Eight Conference loss. Barb Posinger (7 IP, 7 hits) was inside the circle. Melissa Abraham led offensive efforts with a double and an RBI. Adrienne Pisano had the Sabres only other hit.

Alden-Hebron 26, Westminster Christian 0: Katie Moeller and Sara Serrato had the lone hits for Westminster Christian in this 5 inning nonconference loss.

Hampshire 5, Richmond-Burton 4: With matching tallies in the hits and errors columns at 10 and 1 respectively, the difference for Hampshire (13-8, 3-3) came in the runs column as they outscored Richmond 5-4 in Big Northern East Conference action. Tegan Singleton (5-2) got the win allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 10 hits while striking out two in seven innings of work.

Allie Kent (4-for-4, 2b) and Megan Roadcap (2-for-2) led the Whip-Pur hitting.

Girls soccer

Bartlett 7, Glenbard North 1: With hat tricks from both Fran Abate and Luisa Desario, Bartlett (6-3-2) came up with a big nonconference win over Glenbard North to open the Bartlett Tournament. Sam Barone added a single goal and Becca Cronin chimed in with an assist. In the net, Erin Zaidman recorded 3 saves.
